WHAT TO DO FIRST

  1. PATIENCE. TAKE YOUR TIME.
  2. SAVE EVERYTHING. DON'T ASSUME THAT SOMETHING IS NOT VALUABLE AND DISCARD IT.
  3. TRUSTWORTHINESS. FIND A REPUTABLE COIN DEALER IN YOUR AREA.
  4. KNOWLEDGE.  IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING SPECIAL FIND THE PERSON WHO SPECIALIZES IN YOUR SPECIFIC COLLECTION.
  5. RESEARCH. DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH AND GET A WORKING KNOWLEDGE SO WHEN YOU GET AN APPRAISAL OR WHEN YOU ARE READY TO SELL YOU CAN ASK  QUESTIONS THAT NEED ANSWERS.
  6. GET AN APPRAISAL.  NORMALLY THERE IS A COST FOR A WRITTEN APPRAISAL BUT VERBAL APPRAISALS ARE USUALLY FREE.  BE RESPECTFUL WITH A DEALERS TIME CALL FIRST AND SET AN APPOINTMENT.
  7. OFFERS. WHEN YOU ARE READY TO SELL GET MULTIPLE OFFERS BECASUE THERE IS A VAST DIFFERENCE FROM AN APPRAISAL TO WHAT SOMEONE WILL ACTUALLY PAY FOR YOUR ITEM.  ASKING FOR A BUY AND SELL SPREAD WILL NARROW THE GAP.
  8. SELL.  NEVER FEEL PRESSURED TO SELL.  WHEN ALL THE i's ARE DOTTED AND YOUR t'S ARE CROSSED, SELL.  WHEN YOU HAVE DONE YOUR DUE DILIGENCE AND HAVE ENOUGH INFORMATION TO MAKE A DECISION THE STARS WILL ALIGN AND YOU WILL KNOW THE TIME IS RIGHT.
